The Stern Report warns “climate change threatens the basic elements of life for people around the world—access to water, food production, health, and use of land and the environment”. We need to cut our global emissions by at least 50% by 2050 to reduce the risk of suffering extreme climate change impacts. This is no longer a scientific prediction but an accepted outcome unless we change our behaviours.

Population increase, coupled with ever growing consumption and increasing exploitation of natural resources is placing increasing pressure on our environment. The waste management industry is in a position to make a significant contribution through effective practices and encouraging resource efficiency.

The best time to do something about climate change was 20 years ago, the next best is now. Be part of the solution.

The 2008 Waste & Recycle Conference is hosted by the Department of Environment and Conservation, the Waste Management Association of Australia and the Western Australian Local Government Association.
