Lisa Heinzerling

Lisa’s career highlights include being editor-in-chief of the University of Chicago Law School Law Review; serving as an assistant attorney general in Massachusetts, specialising in environmental law; and being a visiting professor at the Yale and Harvard law schools. A member scholar of the Centre for Progressive Reform, a think tank devoted to promoting the affirmative case for health, safety, and environmental protection, she is the co-author, with Frank Ackerman, of Priceless: On Knowing the Price of Everything and the Value of Nothing (The New Press 2004).
In her keynote presentation “Bankrupting the Future: Cost-Benefit Analysis and Environmental Policy” Lisa will unveil the inherent inequities in traditional assessment methods, positing that these are limiting balanced decision-making and leaving a legacy of harm for the next generation.
Enzo Favoino

Enzo frequently takes part as an invited expert at meetings for the “Working Group on Composting and Integrated Waste management”. He and his team have helped many governmental institutions and local authorities to implement waste management schemes, with a particular reference to options for the management of biowaste.
Enzo is involved in workshops organised by the European Commission on Sustainable Waste Management and Source Separation and is an invited expert on the European Climate Change Programme, the ‘Agriculture’ and ‘Soils’ working groups.
Enzo Favoino is currently Chair of the working group on Biological Treatment at the International Solid Waste Association, and a Member of the Board of ECN-European Compost Network.
Paul Gilding
CEO, Ecos Corporation
From 1975 to 1995, Paul worked on a range of social and environmental issues, becoming the International Executive Director of Greenpeace in 1992. In 1995, Paul established Ecos Corporation, and has advised leading corporations including DuPont, Ford, Anglo American, ANZ and IAG on sustainability.
Paul’s contribution to the environment has been widely recognised: at the World Economic Forum; through an Australia Day Award; and being listed as “Time’s Global 100 Young Leaders for the New Millennium”. Paul is a member of the Core Faculty of the Prince of Wales’s Business and the Environment Program, and writes regular columns for The Australian newspaper.
Paul’s keynote address will cover how market mechanisms can resolve environmental problems, including businesses moving from the red side of the ledger to the blue i.e. in terms of their public support or opposition to policy solutions why companies should accept their role in the context of Extended Producer Responsibility.
Peter Jones
Director, Biffa Waste Services Limited, United Kingdom
Peter has specific responsibilities in external affairs and strategy development at Biffa. He has 18 years experience in the waste industry, is a member of the Chartered Institutes of Marketing, Transport, and Wastes Management, and operates in roles demanding skills in the development and management of change processes in sectors undergoing upheaval.
Peter was instrumental in proposing to the Royal Society of Arts Council that it should develop the Domestic Tradeable Carbon Quota program (CarbonLimited). He also plays an active role in the DEFRA/DTI Resource Efficiency KTN, the DEFRA New Technologies Demonstrator Program, their Data Advisory Panel, and the Sustainable Consumption and Production Taskforce. He has also given evidence to a range of Parliamentary Select Committees on waste, sustainability, resource efficiency, and other future environmental challenges.
In the charitable sector, Peter is a Trustee of Waste Watch and Global Action Plan, on the Advisory Committee of the Resource Recovery Forum, and a member of the WWF-UK Council of Ambassadors. He is a keen advocate of the case for considering the waste sector as an important catalyst to unlocking the issues around the carbon economy in a UK context.

Chantell Ilbury is one of South Africa’s leading strategists and facilitators, working both locally and internationally. She specialises in guiding companies and other organisations through their strategic conversations on the future, and is an accomplished speaker on effective management in times of uncertainty.
She has addressed audiences as far afield as England, Ireland, the Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Kuwait, Jamaica, Jersey and the Isle of Man and Southern Africa.
